Residents of several areas in Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city, are enduring a severe heatwave without access to water for more than a week. The ongoing crisis is attributed to diminishing reservoir levels coupled with a spike in water consumption due to the hot weather conditions.
This situation has led to a reduced water supply to many parts of the city, with some reservoirs running critically low or empty. Efforts are being made to manage the situation by restricting water flow from the reservoirs overnight to allow them to replenish. Power outages have also disrupted the operations of a major pump station, leading to intermittent water supply issues in certain areas. Authorities are working to mitigate the crisis and have initiated alternative water supply measures for the impacted residents.
