The Red Sea Global Landscape Nursery, located in Saudi Arabia, is an impressive project that aims to turn 100 hectares of barren desert into a lush, green landscape. The nursery is home to 5 million plants, with an ambitious plan to expand this number to 30 million, some imported from as far as Thailand.
The nursery’s mission is twofold: to help turn local landscapes green and to provide jobs for local people, especially in the growing tourism sector. The plants nurtured here will add to the beauty of two sustainable tourism projects, both of which aim to conserve and enhance the natural environment. This project fosters economic growth by creating jobs and providing training through initiatives such as the red sea vocational program.
The nursery has already hired 341 employees from various nationalities, promising that a minimum of 40percent of its workforce will be Saudi nationals. Not limited to land-based initiatives, red sea global has also ventured into the marine environment, launching two subsidiary brands focused on sustainable water sports and diving activities. This expansion has created an additional 250 jobs, introducing locals to the water sports industry for the first time. The nursery also promotes sustainability by using recycled water for irrigation and implementing biosecurity measures to keep diseases and pests at bay. It’s also committed to driving local industries forward by providing education and empowerment for future ventures, along with promoting gender equality. The success of this project is surpassing expectations, demonstrating that with determination, nothing is impossible.
