According to the FDA’s new document, vaccines don’t have to prevent infection or transmission to be cleared in the United States that’s according to Dr. Peter Marks, a top official at the FDA. Marks was writing as he rejected nearly all recommendations from a group of experts that advised the FDA to update the labels for the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
Vaccines are traditionally known as drugs that prevent an illness. The US Centers for Disease Control and prevention for years said a vaccine is a product that “produces immunity” while vaccination is an injection of an infectious organism “in order to prevent the disease.” The agency changed its definitions after people correctly noted that COVID-19 vaccines do not prevent infection.
The coalition advocating for adequately labeled medicines, a group of experts, had called for the FDA to make clear that the COVID-19 vaccines don’t prevent infection or transmission. Claims specifically made influential people such as Joe Biden, the head of the CDC, and Dr. Anthony Fauci who all originally claimed that vaccinated people would not get sick or infected.
In Canada, prime minister Justin Trudeau is also doing some COVID backpaddling. At a recent event, he actually claimed that he and his government never forced anyone to get vaccinated. Instead, he just provided incentives to encourage the vaccinations.
We can be sure, Canadian residents who were on lockdown, who were arrested, and who lost their jobs remember the situation a bit differently. Just another politician trying to rewrite history.
