Chris Vines, an 81-year-old sketch artist from Brisbane, Australia, is using his passion for art as a source of joy and therapy for others while battling the side effects of cancer treatment. Due to permanent kidney damage, he spends around 15 hours a week on dialysis in the hospital. While waiting for his treatment, Chris finds relief in creating detailed drawings despite having lost sight in one eye. He often takes requests from nurses and fellow patients. His artwork, which includes various animals like sloths and kookaburras, brings a smile and brightens the day of those around him.
Renowned for his humility, Chris says drawing allows him to forget his health issues, making life feel easier and more relaxing. He understands the power of creativity in overcoming challenges and believes in sharing his art as a way to uplift others, preferring to gift his pictures to spread happiness.
