Camino Verde is a non-profit organization in Peru dedicated to aiding farmers in cultivating native trees and plants to protect and preserve them. Its reforestation centers and nurseries boast more than 400 native tree species, creating a unique living seed bank of Amazonian biodiversity. The organization assists farmers in transitioning from non-native crops like corn and rice to native plants that can be harvested year-round, ensuring a steady income.
In addition, Camino Verde supports the production of non-timber products such as Amazonian vanilla, wild cacao, honey, and essential oils, which are distributed internationally. Now recognized as a conservation area, it collaborates closely with indigenous communities. A comprehensive digital database shares information worldwide on more than 650 unique Amazonian species. To date, Camino Verde has planted more than 200-thousand trees, producing thousands of seedlings annually, which are either donated or sold at cost. The organization remains committed to safeguarding Peru’s rich biodiversity.
