A Paris-based startup called Releaf Paper is transforming fallen leaves from city streets into eco-friendly paper products. Founded by a pair of innovative entrepreneurs, the company collects leaves that clog gutters and sewers, utilizing these raw materials for their production. Each year, about 3 million paper bags are made from 5-thousand metric tons of leaves.
This process offers a greener alternative using low water and no sulfur or chlorine. Up to six billion trees are cut down each year to make paper products, and the company wants to help lower that number. With plans to expand across Europe and beyond, the Releaf Paper initiative envisions a future where every city could implement this sustainable solution.
