This ground breaking move is part of a largescale social reform initiated by king Mohammed the 6th in 2020. Beneficiaries will receive a minimum of 500 Dirhams approximately 51 Dollars per month, regardless of family size. This reform also includes the extension of social security coverage to all Moroccans and the provision of free medical coverage for more than 10million disadvantaged individuals.
This shift from indirect and untargeted assistance to a direct, targeted aid program comes at a time of economic slowdown and significant social disparities among Morocco’s 36 million citizens. The overall impact on the Moroccan population, especially the underprivileged, will be profound, offering them much needed financial and social relief.
