In Milan, Italy, modern interior designers are repurposing organic materials such as orange and lemon peel, and coffee grounds to create artistic lamps, clocks, and furniture. An Italian company, Krill Designs, processes these waste products into 100-percent organic biomaterial. The process involves turning dried orange, lemon, or coffee waste into a powder, which is then mixed to form a paste.
This paste is molded into threads used in 3-D printers. Items produced include stools, bookends, buttons, and photo frames, as well as home and office furniture. These ultra-modern products are sustainable, durable and respect nature. Krill Designs are creatively reusing organic waste, merging beauty, utility, and environmental responsibility, while combining high quality with a low environmental impact.
