In the heart of Helsinki, Oodi stands tall a library created from collaboration with over 3-thousand citizens, architects, and planners. Oodi is an elegant three-story building of Finnish spruce, steel, and glass sprawled across 185-thousand square feet. While a third is dedicated to library books, two-thirds of its space offers public amenities. The ground floor is an inviting social area with a restaurant, theater, chess boards, and event spaces.
The second floor is for creative workspaces, game rooms, and high-tech tools like 3-D printers, laser cutters and digital wood sculpting. The top floor, bathed in natural light from circular skylights, welcomes you with cozy reading spaces, and invites you to enjoy the panoramic terrace outside. Oodi isn’t just a library; it’s a testament to civic pride. Helsinki’s citizens can rightfully claim Oodi as their own, and show what can be achieved when a community comes together.
