Central Chile is currently facing a catastrophic forest fire situation that has claimed at least 46 lives. More than 1thousand homes have been lost to the fires, with residents facing urgent evacuation orders. The government has deployed 19 helicopters and 450 firefighters to combat the fires, which are aggravated by the El Niño induced drought and difficult to navigate terrain of the affected areas.
Entire neighborhoods have been wiped out, local infrastructure, including bus terminals, is destroyed, and critical facilities like hospitals and nursing homes have been evacuated. Authorities are calling on the community for cooperation to ensure the safety and accessibility of emergency services.
